NBC announced that Meredith Vieria is leaving Today after serving as co-anchor for the past five years. The network released a statement today saying, “Meredith will continue in a new role at NBC News, with an official announcement in the coming months.”
On Monday’s Today, Meredith Vieira made an announcement that she would be leaving the show in June. In a tear-filled statement, Vieira said her decision was based on months personal reflection and conversations with family and friends.
Vieira added,
Even as I say this, and I know that it is the right thing, I’m really sad, because for the past — I like to say 10 years, but it’s only five — this has been my second home.
Ann Curry will take her place as co-anchor. As for Vieira, she said she hoped to stay in the NBC family.
