Dog Rescued In The Gulf Of Mexico
Rory O’Connor was fishing in the Gulf of Mexico on his kayak when something very odd approached him, it was a dog. Find out how the dog got there and watch the footage captured by O’Connor as he came across Barney (the dog’s name).
After learning more about Barney and what had happened, O’Connor posted his video on YouTube with this message,
The accident scene was about a mile from where I found Barney swimming. Our guess is that he was so freaked out and traumatized that he just wanted to get as far away from there as possible. And when he ran out of land, he took to the water. I feel lucky that I was there fishing, because there was no place for him to go and I don’t know if he could have made it much farther. He’s banged up, but fine. Our hearts go out to the family who lost their mother.
Unfortunately, the story behind Barney the dog is a grim one. Along with his owner, he was struck by a car while on a walk. 22-year-old, Blake Talman hit the two after allegedly fleeing the scene of another accident. After being hit, Barney fled the scene and jumped into the Gulf of Mexico where he was later found by O’Connor. Sadly, his owner, 53-year-old Donna L. Chen passed away and Talman is currently facing manslaughter charges.
